Mentoring
& Wellbeing
NCGS offer Mentoring programs for young people, who need guidance and confidence building. Our aim is to enable those whom we come into contact with to give them the tools to help make decisions that will allow them to achieve balance within their lives.
Our programs are structured to fit individual needs, and our Mentors are all qualified in their subject matter, all are DBS checked with years of expertise as well as personal experiences. This unique approach enables the mentee to relax and relay information in an informal setting, without feeling under pressure.
All referrals are welcomed!
All referrals to: info@norwoodcommunitygroup.co.uk
CAF (Common Application Form) forms must be completed on referral.
It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their life and is becoming increasingly popular as its potential is realised. It is a partnership between two people (mentor and client) often sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.
We have access to an IT suite and other initiatives within the Old Library Hub. Our intention is to create an environment of opportunities for young people, to broaden their horizons, enabling self esteem.
What is Mentoring?
With increasing seniority comes more and more ambiguity and complexity – and less and less support to deal with them. Our mentoring programme supports you on today’s challenges whilst equipping you for tomorrow.
Mentoring enables you to:
Realign your goals and your work
Increase your performance
Develop your capabilities and personal awareness
Boost your confidence and enjoyment
Raise your motivation and sharpen your focus
Improve your impact on others
Why Mentoring?
NCGS is currently facilitating 1-1 mentoring for young girls and boys attending our recreational projects. Issues can range from bullying to lack of self-esteem, obesity etc. etc.
Our first steps are to build up a rapport with the young person before we can start to offer support and advise them. We have peer mentors working alongside us. this provides more support on the ground, enabling us to reach our aims and objectives.
As part of the program, we will work towards the implementation of the following practices listed below:
Experience Positive solution focused interactions
Build and maintain positive relationships
Build resilience
Increase knowledge and skills
Be reinforced with regard to education, hard work and responsibilities
Build confidence and self-esteem through acceptance and support
Broaden their horizon through research of topics of interest
Create action plans with daily, weekly and monthly goals, encouraging self-monitoring and evaluation
1-1 Mentoring
Topics will include:
Achieving excellence through goal setting, self-care, being active, eating well and having fun.
Bolstering confidence and self-esteem
Building resilience
Establishing routines
Developing relationship skills
Developing communication skills
Managing conflict
The Methodology
We have adopted the whole family approach as outlined in the Children & young people's plan.
The service we provide incorporates and responds to the goals and aspirations set out in the Lambeth made edition. “The whole family means” we will include the adults and young people and it will enable us to offer support and guidance to those who request it.
We understand the need for a more holistic way of doing things, so by offering this service we have created a platform for real dialog within a family setting, allowing parents, carers to voice concerns as we believe transparency and trust are key factors.
NCGS facilitates group mentoring sessions in an informal setting, we will promote dialog and interaction with the young people in a group setting, this encourages expression of speech in a safe and controlled environment. We will address the current themes of the day, talking about challenges and issues they may have to face in life.
Things we discuss are the importance of education, knife crime and gangs. These are just some of the topics we touch upon.
Group Mentoring
Outcomes
By providing this service, the objective is to continually support our users with online mentoring, such as advice regarding health & wellbeing and any other issues.
We will also act as a gateway for our users to access other services via the Norwood Consortium Partnership and Lambeth Council.
We currently use the Assessment & Qualification Alliance awards scheme (AQA) to reward our young people with tangible outcomes. Our aim is to motivate and instil self-esteem.
All Successful participants will receive an AQA certificate, plus a gift voucher, as a reward for their efforts.
Let’s Talk
The easiest way to understand how we can help, and whether you feel that you could work with us, is to begin with a conversation.
We don’t believe in a “hard sell” and often find that people get value out of the exploratory discussion – whether or not we go on to work together.
