The Old Library in West Norwood- Rathbone Society….

Why is this happening?

Lambeth Council are looking for new ways of working and delivering services.  The Cooperative Council programme is now well underway and many local services, such as youth services, adventure playgrounds and one o’clock clubs are being transferred to local charities and community groups.  The idea is that these groups will be from the local community and will be able to work with those communities to deliver better services.  You can find out more on the Council website, there is a link on the home page.  www.lambeth.gov.uk

Who are Rathbone?

Rathbone are a local charity.  We are part of the West Norwood community.  We have been based here since 1967.  We deliver services to children, young people and adults.  We also specialise in working with people who have learning disabilities and Autism.  We run social care services, day projects and youth projects.  We have over 45 years experience of running youth clubs in the West Norwood area.

What will change?

At first, not a lot.  We want to try and make sure that the services people enjoy at the Old Library are not disrupted during the change over.  Then, we want to get to know everyone and work with them to improve things.  We will be working with the young people who use the youth clubs to involve them in making improvements.  We will be working with other groups who use the building and local people to make the building a more useful community space.  Over time we will be introducing new services such as training courses and volunteering.

The building will continue to host the temporary library until it moves back across the road to it’s refurbished home in Nettlefold Hall.
